The upcoming Dashain holidays and end-of-quarter financial pressures have noticeably dampened the spirit of the stock market. On Friday, the final trading day of the week, the NEPSE index declined by 11.90 points to settle at 2587.25. With investors adopting a 'wait and watch' approach rather than making fresh investments, the total market turnover also shrank to approximately Rs 4.29 billion.
A technical analysis of NEPSE's daily chart reveals that the market is currently navigating within a clear 'downtrend channel'. The continuous formation of 'lower highs' and 'lower lows', coupled with the appearance of a small red (bearish) candle on Friday, confirms that sellers are currently dominating the buyers. Resting at the 2587 mark, the index is expected to find its immediate strong support (S1) at the 2546.69 level, while any upward movement will face its primary resistance (R1) at 2676.52.
Other technical indicators also fail to show strong signals of an immediate market rebound. The Relative Strength Index (RSI), which measures market momentum, has slipped below the neutral 50-mark to stand at 45.43, indicating elevated selling pressure. Similarly, the MACD indicator is hovering right around the zero line, suggesting that the market still lacks a definitive direction and might remain under pressure in the near term.
As the broader market and most sub-indices flashed red, investor attention temporarily shifted toward safer financial instruments like debentures. Since significant capital injection is unlikely on the eve of the major festivals, market analysts anticipate that NEPSE will chart a new course only after the Dashain holidays conclude and liquidity constraints ease in the financial system.
