Finance Minister Barshaman Pun revealed that he carried a bag made from hemp while presenting the budget. During a discussion in the Agriculture Committee of the House of Representatives, he mentioned that the bag he used, which was labeled as a Nepali product, was actually made from hemp.
Pun highlighted that hemp production is happening in various villages. He noted that producing hemp seeds and fibers has become quite common and suggested that hemp cultivation should be opened up for research purposes.
According to him, there is no need to be overly concerned about immediately legalizing hemp for research. He proposed that other related productions could also be gradually brought under legal frameworks.
This statement brings to light the potential for commercial hemp production. Minister Pun emphasized the need to seriously consider hemp production and its uses in Nepal. His remarks have initiated a new debate on the legality and commercial possibilities of hemp.
