Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank has demonstrated encouraging financial progress in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2083/84. Driven primarily by significant improvements in loan recovery and successful management of non-performing loans (NPL), the bank's net profit has surged by nearly 17 percent.
According to the un-audited financial report published for the first quarter, the bank recorded a net profit of Rs 231.15 million (23.11 crore) during this review period. In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the net profit stood at Rs 197.58 million (19.75 crore). This 16.99 percent year-over-year profit growth reflects the bank's balanced business strategy despite a challenging economic environment. Additionally, the bank's core revenue stream, its net interest income, witnessed a modest increase of 1.43 percent, reaching Rs 626.48 million (62.64 crore).
The primary catalyst behind this remarkable leap in profitability is the massive drop in the bank's impairment charges. The bank successfully reduced its non-performing loan (NPL) ratio from 4.41 percent in the first quarter of the previous year to 3.93 percent this year. Consequently, the provision set aside for potential loan losses (impairment charge) saw a drastic reduction. While the bank had to allocate Rs 110.6 million (11.06 crore) for impairment charges last year, the figure plummeted to just Rs 49.4 million (4.94 crore) this quarter. This operational efficiency and aggressive loan recovery helped push the bank's total operating income to Rs 745.88 million (74.58 crore) and its operating profit to Rs 338.77 million (33.87 crore). During this period, the bank also earned Rs 110.23 million in net fee and commission income.
As the financial indicators strengthen, the foundation for shareholder returns has broadened significantly. By the end of the first quarter, the bank's distributable profit reached Rs 152.16 million (15.21 crore), which translates to an annualized dividend capacity of 15.76 percent. Along with the rise in net profit, the Earnings Per Share (EPS)—a key metric for investors—has improved from Rs 20.46 last year to Rs 23.13. Similarly, the net worth per share stands at a solid Rs 161.84.
Currently, Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank maintains a paid-up capital of Rs 4.21 billion. Compared to its capital size, the bank's reserve fund is highly robust, holding accumulated reserves of Rs 2.22 billion. Overall, the financial report indicates that the bank's strategic shift toward quality lending and the recovery of legacy loans, rather than aggressive credit expansion, is paving the way for a much healthier financial future.
