Even as commercial banks' fixed deposit interest rates drop below 5%, mutual funds have stepped up to offer lucrative returns to their investors. Despite a prolonged sideways trend in the stock market, eight out of the 13 mutual fund schemes that recently announced their dividends for the last fiscal year have proposed returns exceeding 5%, with several even offering double-digit yields.
Market experts attribute these strong returns to the diversified income streams of mutual funds, which are not solely reliant on secondary market trading. Their profitability is heavily bolstered by a guaranteed 5% quota in initial public offerings (IPOs), alongside income from bank interest, debentures, and corporate dividends. Book closure has already been completed for six of these schemes, while three funds from Siddhartha Capital, three from NMB Capital, and Reliable Samriddhi Yojana are approaching their book closure dates.
Leading the pack, four funds—Siddhartha Investment Growth Scheme-3, NMB Sulav Investment Fund-2, Kumari Dhanabriddhi Yojana, and Kumari Equity Fund—have proposed the highest cash dividend of 10% each. Following closely, Reliable Samriddhi Yojana has offered 8.42%, while Siddhartha Investment Growth Scheme-2 and MBL Equity Fund have both proposed 8%. The remaining funds have announced returns ranging from 3% to 5.25%, with Kumari Sabal Yojana offering the lowest at 2.9%.
In addition to mutual funds, three other listed companies have also declared their dividends from last year's profits. Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank has proposed a 15% cash dividend, and Shangrila Development Bank has announced a total dividend of 10.53% (including a 4% bonus share). Similarly, Mandu Hydropower, which already closed its books on Bhadra 5, has proposed a substantial 22.52% total dividend, combining profits from the previous two fiscal years.
