सन्तोष नारायण श्रेष्ठ नेपालका अनुभवी व्यवसायी हुन्, जसले जलविद्युत्, लघुवित्त, र अन्य वित्तीय क्षेत्रमा सक्रिय लगानी गर्दै आएका छन्। उनको व्यवसायिक अनुभव र सेयर बजारमा लामो समयको संलग्नताले उनीलाई यो पदका लागि उपयुक्त उम्मेदवार बनाएको हो। श्रेष्ठलाई व्यावसायिक घरानाहरूको बलियो समर्थन प्राप्त छ, जसले नयाँ स्टक एक्सचेञ्ज स्थापना गर्ने कार्यलाई अघि बढाउने विश्वास गरिएको छ।

नेपाल धितोपत्र बोर्डको अध्यक्ष पद पुस २०८० देखि खाली रहेको थियो। यस अवधिमा बोर्डका नीतिगत निर्णयहरू र दैनिक कामकाजमा ठुलो असर परेको थियो। सरकारले अन्ततः राष्ट्रिय योजना आयोगका उपाध्यक्ष प्राडा. शिवराज अधिकारीको नेतृत्वमा सिफारिस समिति गठन गर्यो। समितिले पाँच उम्मेदवारलाई सर्टलिस्ट गरेको थियो, जसमा सन्तोष नारायण श्रेष्ठ, डा. नवराज अधिकारी, मुक्तिनाथ श्रेष्ठ, कृष्णबहादुर कार्की, र चिरञ्जीवी चापागाईं थिए।
उम्मेदवारहरूमध्ये सन्तोष नारायण श्रेष्ठ र मुक्तिनाथ श्रेष्ठले गत असार २ गते अन्तर्वार्ता र प्रस्तुतीकरण दिएका थिए। आइतबार बाँकी उम्मेदवारहरूमध्ये केही अन्तर्वार्तामा उपस्थित भएनन्। अन्ततः मन्त्रिपरिषद्ले श्रेष्ठलाई सेबोनको अध्यक्ष नियुक्त गर्ने निर्णय गर्यो।

सेबोनको नेतृत्वविहीन अवस्थाले पुँजी बजारको सुधार र विकासमा गम्भीर असर पार्यो। अर्थ मन्त्रालयका सहसचिवलाई कार्यवाहक अध्यक्ष बनाइए पनि, धेरै नीतिगत निर्णयहरूमा ढिलाइ भयो। यसले लगानीकर्ताहरू र बजार सहभागीहरूबीच असन्तोष र अनिश्चितता सिर्जना गर्यो।

नेपालमा एकल स्टक एक्सचेञ्ज (नेप्से) मात्र रहेको अवस्थामा प्रतिस्पर्धात्मक बजारको आवश्यकता महसुस गरिएको छ। हिमालयन स्टक एक्सचेञ्जले लामो समयदेखि लाइसेन्स प्राप्त गर्न प्रयास गरिरहेको छ। श्रेष्ठको नेतृत्वमा यस प्रकरणलाई उचित निर्णयमा पुर्याउने अपेक्षा गरिएको छ।पुँजी बजारको पारदर्शिता सुधार

After 11 months of being without leadership, the Nepal Securities Board (SEBON) has finally appointed Santosh Narayan Shrestha as its new chairman. Who is Santosh Narayan Shrestha?
Santosh Narayan Shrestha is a seasoned entrepreneur with extensive investments in hydropower companies and microfinance institutions in Nepal. His vast experience in the financial sector and his active engagement in the stock market make him a suitable choice for this position. Shrestha is known to have strong support from business houses aiming to establish a new stock exchange, which has fueled expectations for his role in driving this initiative.
The Selection Process: Rigorous and Transparent
The chairman position at SEBON had been vacant since January 2023, significantly affecting its operational efficiency. In response, the government formed a recommendation committee led by National Planning Commission Vice Chairman Dr. Shiv Raj Adhikari. The committee shortlisted five candidates, including Santosh Narayan Shrestha, Dr. Navaraj Adhikari, Muktinath Shrestha, Krishna Bahadur Karki, and Chiranjivi Chapagain.
Among the candidates, Shrestha and Muktinath Shrestha underwent interviews and presentations in July. Later, additional interviews were conducted for the remaining candidates, except for Chapagain, who did not participate. Ultimately, the cabinet chose Shrestha as the new chairman of SEBON.
Challenges Faced by SEBON During the Vacancy
The prolonged absence of leadership severely impacted SEBON's ability to make policy decisions and manage day-to-day operations. Although the Ministry of Finance had temporarily assigned a joint secretary to oversee SEBON, this arrangement was insufficient to address critical issues and delayed several key initiatives.

Nepal currently operates a single stock exchange, NEPSE. There is a pressing need for a competitive market. Himalayan Stock Exchange has been striving to obtain a license for years. Shrestha is expected to resolve this matter decisively.Improving Market Transparency
