Apply for Transit Visa to Switzerland: Requirements for Nepali Nationals

If you're a Nepali citizen traveling through Switzerland to another destination, you will need to apply for a Schengen Transit Visa. This visa allows you to transit through Switzerland for a short period, typically up to 24 hours, while on your way to a third country. The process for applying for this visa is fairly straightforward and can be completed through VFS Global. Here is a detailed breakdown of the required documents and steps for the application process.
First, you will need to complete the visa application form, which must be filled out accurately and signed. If the applicant is under 18 years old, both parents must sign the form, and additional documents like a birth certificate and a parental consent letter will be required if the minor is traveling alone or with only one parent. It’s essential to fill in the form carefully and ensure all details match your passport information. Along with the application, you will need to provide a valid passport that must be issued within the last 10 years and have at least three months of validity beyond your intended stay in Switzerland. The passport should also contain at least two blank pages for visa stamps. Along with the original passport, you should submit a clear photocopy of the personal data page, and if applicable, any previous Schengen visas or valid US/UK visas.
Next, you will need to provide two recent passport-sized photographs, which should meet the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards of 35-40mm in width with a white background. These photographs should not be older than six months and should clearly show your face. Along with the photographs, you will also need to provide proof of flight reservations. This includes your round-trip flight booking showing your entry to Switzerland and your onward journey to a third country. If your exit from the Schengen area is to a non-Schengen country, proof of a valid visa or residence permit for that country will also be required. This documentation helps confirm your intended departure from Switzerland within the allowed transit period.
You must also show proof of your financial status to ensure that you can support yourself during the brief stopover in Switzerland. If you are employed, you will need to submit bank statements for the past three to six months, along with salary slips. Self-employed individuals will need to provide business-related documents, such as company registration and tax payment proof. For students or those unemployed, financial support from a parent or guardian will be accepted, provided supporting documents such as their bank statements are included. Additionally, all applicants are required to have Schengen Travel Medical Insurance, which must cover at least 30,000 Euros for medical emergencies during your transit. This insurance should be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Switzerland and any other Schengen countries you may pass through.
In terms of accommodation proof, although your stay in Switzerland will be short, you will need to provide accommodation details. This could be a hotel reservation or an invitation letter from a friend or relative in Switzerland confirming that they will host you during your transit. Furthermore, applicants are required to pay a visa fee of 30 Eurosat the VFS Global center when submitting their application. The fee is non-refundable, even if the visa application is denied. The processing time for the transit visa generally takes 5 to 7 working days, but it may take longer depending on the volume of applications, so it is recommended to apply at least two weeks before your planned travel date.
By ensuring you have all the necessary documents, completing the application form accurately, and submitting your visa application to VFS Global, you can smoothly apply for a Switzerland Transit Visa. Keep in mind that the Swiss Embassy has the right to request additional documentation or verify the authenticity of submitted documents. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to carry copies of all documents submitted in case the border authorities need to check them upon arrival in Switzerland.
