Bali Visa on Arrival vs. eVisa – Which Is Better for Nepali Travelers?

For Nepali travelers, the Bali eVisa (C1 Tourist Visa) is far better than the Visa on Arrival, since VOA is not available for Nepali passport holders. The eVisa allows 60-day stays (extendable up to 180 days), requires online pre-approval, and offers smooth entry without queues. Although it costs slightly more, it ensures a secure, hassle-free, and extendable travel experience for Nepali tourists visiting Indonesia in 2025.

Bali Visa on Arrival vs. eVisa – Which Is Better for Nepali Travelers?

For Nepali travelers planning to visit Bali or Indonesia, understanding the difference between the Visa on Arrival (VOA) and the Indonesia eVisa (C1 Tourist Visa) is essential before making travel arrangements. While citizens of many countries can get a Visa on Arrival at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, Nepali passport holders are not currently eligible for VOA under Indonesia’s 2025 entry regulations. Therefore, Nepali citizens must apply for an eVisa (C1 Tourist Visa) online before departure.

The Visa on Arrival (VOA) is available for 90+ countries and costs IDR 500,000 (around USD 35). It allows travelers to stay in Indonesia for 30 days, which can be extended once for another 30 days, giving a total stay of 60 days maximum. Travelers can apply for VOA upon arrival at the airport or through an e-VOA portal before flying. However, VOA is designed mainly for short visits and is subject to airport queues, payment delays, and strict entry eligibility. For Nepali travelers, VOA is not currently an available option, as Nepal is not on Indonesia’s VOA-approved nationality list.

In contrast, the C1 Tourist eVisa is a pre-approved electronic visa that must be applied for online via the official Indonesian immigration portal (https://molina.imigrasi.go.id). It allows Nepali travelers to stay for 60 days initially, with the possibility of extending twice (each for 60 days), enabling a maximum stay of up to 180 days. The visa fee is IDR 1,000,000 (approximately NPR 8,500–9,000), and the processing time is around five working days. Applicants must upload documents such as a valid passport (at least six months), a bank statement showing USD 2,000 minimum balance for the last three months, and a recent color photograph. Optional documents such as flight itineraries, hotel bookings, or invitation letters from hosts can make the application stronger.

The eVisa offers better certainty, flexibility, and convenience compared to the VOA. It avoids airport queues and lets travelers arrive with pre-approved entry permission. Since the visa is processed and approved online, applicants receive a PDF visa via email, which can be printed and carried during travel. Upon arrival, Nepali travelers only need to show the eVisa at immigration to receive their entry stamp. Furthermore, the C1 visa allows more flexibility for extensions and future conversions, making it ideal for tourists, long-term visitors, or those joining conferences and exhibitions.

While VOA is cheaper and faster for eligible nationalities, for Nepali passport holders, the eVisa remains the only valid and legal entry option. Its longer stay duration, online process, and reusability for extension make it the better and more reliable choice for Nepalis traveling to Bali or any part of Indonesia.

If you need help with your eVisa application, Yatra for Fun Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary company of Nepse Trading, is one of Nepal’s leading travel agencies specializing in visa assistance for over 70 countries, including Indonesia. They provide complete documentation guidance, application tracking, and approval support to ensure smooth travel processing for Nepali citizens.
