Applying for a China Student Visa (X Visa) from Nepal is a structured process that allows Nepali students to study at Chinese universities for undergraduate, postgraduate, or short-term academic programs. To begin, students must first secure admission from a recognized Chinese university. After receiving the Admission Notice and the JW201 or JW202 Form, applicants can proceed to the visa application phase.

There are two main types of Chinese student visas — X1 for long-term study (more than 180 days) and X2 for short-term study (less than 180 days). Applicants must complete the COVA online visa form, print and sign it, and then book an appointment via the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Kathmandu. The required documents include a valid passport (with at least 6 months’ validity), admission letter, JW form, medical report, financial proof, and recent passport-size photographs. For X1 visa holders, a medical examination report from an authorized hospital is essential.

The next step is submitting all documents in person at the Chinese Visa Center (located in Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu). Applicants must also pay the applicable visa fee and may need to provide biometric data (fingerprints). The processing period usually ranges from 4 to 10 working days, depending on the application volume.

Upon arrival in China, students with an X1 visa must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days at the local Public Security Bureau (PSB). This permit serves as their long-term stay authorization during their study period. The university usually assists with registration and residence formalities.
