Hong Kong Business Visa for Nepalese — Eligibility, Documents & Entry Rules

Nepali citizens who plan to visit Hong Kong for business meetings, trade activities, investment, or company establishment are required to obtain a proper Business Visa or Entry Permit from the Hong Kong Immigration Department before traveling. As Nepal is not listed among the 170 visa-free countries, all Nepali passport holders must apply in advance to engage in any form of commercial or investment-related activity within the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

A Hong Kong Business Visa is typically issued for short-term business activities such as attending meetings, trade fairs, exhibitions, negotiations, or signing contracts. However, if the applicant intends to establish, manage, or join a business in Hong Kong, they must apply under the “Investment as Entrepreneurs” Scheme. The Hong Kong government differentiates between short-term business visits (which do not allow employment) and entrepreneur/investment visas (which allow active participation in business operations).

To be eligible for a business visa, the applicant must prove they have a genuine business purpose, adequate financial resources, and a clean immigration and legal record. The immigration authorities carefully assess the applicant’s background, proposed business plan, and potential contribution to Hong Kong’s economy before granting approval.

Applicants are required to fill out Form ID 1003A (for the applicant) and Form ID 1003B (for local sponsor, if any). These forms are available on the Hong Kong Immigration Department’s official website. Alongside the forms, several supporting documents must be provided — including a valid passport (with at least six months’ validity), company profile, invitation letter from a Hong Kong business partner or organizer, proof of financial stability (such as recent bank statements), flight itinerary, and hotel booking confirmation. If the applicant already operates a business, additional documents such as a business registration certificate, trade license, or financial records may also be required.

After completing the online submission, the applicant must send the original signed forms and photographs by air mail to the Immigration Department at 61 Po Yap Road, Tseung Kwan O, New Territories, Hong Kong. Email submissions are not accepted.

The processing time for a Hong Kong Business Visa generally ranges from 2 to 4 weeks after all original documents are received by the department. The visa fee depends on the visa type and duration, usually between HKD 250 and HKD 1,000 for single, double, or multiple-entry permits. Once approved, the applicant will receive an eVisa (electronic visa), which can be downloaded and printed for presentation at the airport upon arrival in Hong Kong.

It is important to note that business visitors cannot work or receive payment during their stay unless authorized under the Short-Term Visitor (STV) Scheme for specific industries. Violating visa terms, such as engaging in employment or overstaying, can result in a fine up to HKD 50,000 and imprisonment for up to two years.
