The introduction of the e-Visa system by Hong Kong's Immigration Department has simplified the visa application process, especially for Nepali citizens looking to visit Hong Kong in 2025. The system allows for seamless online application, immediate access to visas, and a faster, more efficient immigration process. The transition to digital visa processing eliminates the need for physical visa stickers and in-person visits to the immigration office, ensuring a smoother experience for travelers. With online payment options, quick re-downloads in case of loss, and easy verification, the e-Visa system is an essential step toward modernizing Hong Kong’s immigration process.

The Hong Kong e-Visa system, implemented by the Immigration Department (ImmD) since December 28, 2021, has brought a significant shift in the visa issuance process. Previously, applicants for visas, permits, and extensions were issued physical sticker labels. However, with the introduction of the e-Visa system, applicants now receive a digital version of their visa in PDF format, which can be easily downloaded and printed at their convenience. This digital shift eliminates the need for applicants to visit the Immigration Office in person for payment and collection, making the process faster and more convenient.
The most significant advantage of the e-Visa is the convenience it offers. Applicants can complete the entire visa application process online, from submission to payment. Once the application is approved, the e-Visa can be instantly downloaded or printed, which means no waiting in queues. Moreover, online payment options are available, including credit card payments, mobile wallet services like Alipay and WeChat Pay, and other payment platforms such as Payment by Phone Service (PPS) and Faster Payment System (FPS).
If you have a sticker-type visa issued before the implementation of the e-Visa system, there's no need to replace it with an e-Visa, as these stickers remain valid until their expiration date. The e-Visa applies only to new applications or status updates after December 28, 2021.
For verification purposes, the e-Visa contains an encrypted QR code. This allows authorized personnel, such as employers or immigration officers, to verify the validity of the visa. This can be done either by scanning the QR code or by importing the e-Visa file into the ImmD Mobile App or GovHK website.
After paying the relevant visa fee, applicants can download the e-Visa through the GovHK website or the ImmD Mobile Application. If you miss downloading it immediately after payment, you can still do so at any time for free.
In case of losing or misplacing your e-Visa, you don’t need to re-apply. You can simply re-download or re-print it free of charge through the ImmD website or app.
Upon arrival, travelers must present their valid travel documents along with their e-Visa. At immigration counters, they will scan the QR code for clearance. If you are traveling onward, you can also use the e-Visa for verification in other countries.
If you encounter technical issues during the application or payment process, the ImmD provides support through a dedicated hotline, ensuring users have assistance when needed.
