Hong Kong Visa for Nepali Passport Holders Residing in Australia or Japan – Full Process and Requirements

Nepali passport holders residing in Australia or Japan must apply for a Hong Kong Visit or Entry Visa in advance through the Immigration Department’s official online portal. Their foreign residence may support credibility but does not replace visa requirements. Applicants must provide valid travel documents, proof of residence, financial stability, and onward travel details. After approval, the visa fee can be paid online, and an e-Visa is issued immediately. For accurate documentation and faster approval, Yatra For Fun Pvt. Ltd. provides expert visa services to Nepali travelers worldwide.

Hong Kong Visa for Nepali Passport Holders Residing in Australia or Japan – Full Process and Requirements

Nepali passport holders who are currently residing in Australia or Japan and wish to visit the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) must apply for a Visit Visa or Entry Permit before travel, as Nepal is not included in Hong Kong’s visa-free access list. Regardless of where they reside, Nepali citizens are still subject to Hong Kong’s standard visa rules and must apply through the Immigration Department of Hong Kong (ImmD) prior to entry.

The residency in Australia or Japan may make the process slightly easier in terms of communication and documentation verification, but it does not grant automatic visa exemption. The Hong Kong Immigration Department evaluates each application individually, ensuring that the applicant’s bona fides are genuine, they possess adequate financial resources, and have no intention of overstaying or working illegally.

Applicants must demonstrate a clear travel purpose such as visiting family or friends, attending business meetings, conferences, or tourism. They must submit the required supporting documents online, including:

  • Valid Nepali passport (minimum six months’ validity)

  • Recent passport-size photo

  • Completed visa application form ID 1003A

  • Sponsor form ID 1003B (if applicable)

  • Proof of Australian or Japanese residence visa or identity card

  • Bank statement or proof of financial means

  • Confirmed flight ticket (round trip)

  • Hotel booking or accommodation proof

  • Invitation letter (if invited by a host or company in Hong Kong)

All documents must be scanned and uploaded in JPEG, PDF, GIF, PNG, or TIF format, with each file size below 5 MB. Applications are submitted via the Hong Kong Immigration online portal, and an acknowledgement email is generally received within 7 working days. The processing time is approximately 4 weeks, depending on document completeness and verification.

Upon approval, applicants will receive a payment link via email to pay the visa fee (approximately HK$230 – HK$250) through GovHK, FPS, PPS, or credit card. Once payment is made, the applicant can download or print the e-Visa immediately. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, travelers must present both the e-Visa and valid passport at immigration for QR code scanning and entry clearance.

Even though applicants are based in Australia or Japan, they may submit their visa applications through the nearest Chinese Consulate or Embassy if they prefer physical submission. However, the online process is faster and more convenient, especially for professionals or students residing abroad.
