How to Apply for a China Transit or Entry Visa from Nepal

For Nepali citizens planning to travel through or enter China, understanding the visa process is essential to ensure smooth and stress-free travel. China offers two main visa options for Nepali travelers — the Transit Visa (G-Type) and the Entry Visa (which includes Tourist, Business, Student, Medical, or Family categories). The process for both visa types is handled through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu.

The Transit Visa (G-Type) is designed for passengers who are passing through China en route to a third country, such as from Kathmandu to Tokyo via Beijing or Kathmandu to Seoul via Guangzhou. If your stay in China is less than 24 hours and you remain inside the airport, you can use the visa-free transit policy. However, if your transit exceeds 24 hours or you wish to leave the airport, you must apply for a G-Type Transit Visa in advance.

The Entry Visa, on the other hand, applies to travelers who intend to enter and stay in China for specific purposes — such as tourism (L-Type), business meetings (M-Type), study (X-Type), medical treatment (R-Type), or family visits (Q/S-Type). Each visa type has its own set of documentation requirements and validity periods, ranging from 30 days to one year, depending on the purpose and supporting documents.

The visa application process begins by filling out the online form at www.visaforchina.cn. Applicants must choose “Kathmandu” as the visa center, fill all personal, travel, and contact details, upload a recent photograph, print the completed form, and book an appointment online before visiting CVASC in person.

During submission, you must bring the following documents:

  • A valid Nepali passport (minimum six months validity and two blank pages)

  • A passport-sized photo (48x33 mm) with a white background

  • Completed and signed visa application form

  • Confirmed flight ticket to the destination (for transit visa)

  • Hotel booking or invitation letter (for entry visa)

  • Bank statement for the last 3–6 months showing sufficient funds

  • Travel/medical insurance policy

  • Additional supporting documents (employment letter, student ID, hospital letter, or business documents, depending on visa type)

Visa processing usually takes 4–7 working days, but express service is available in 2–3 days. The visa fee varies depending on type —

  • Transit (G-Type): NPR 10,000–14,000

  • Tourist (L-Type): NPR 12,000–15,000

  • Business (M-Type): NPR 15,000–18,000

  • Medical/Student: NPR 18,000–20,000

Once your visa is approved, collect your passport and verify the entry count, visa validity, and stay duration. Always keep copies of your passport and visa while traveling in China.
