Wages in Nepal’s information and communication sector jumped 4.35% in FY 2024/25, with the index hitting 104.58. The sector leads wage growth, fueled by demand for IT and digital services, but employers face cost pressures from talent competition.

The Salary and Wage Index (SWI) for FY 2024/25 shows that wages in Nepal’s information and communication sector rose sharply by 4.35%, outpacing the national average of 2.63%. The index climbed to 104.58 in July 2025, compared to 100.21 in July 2024, highlighting the rapid expansion of the digital economy.
This wage surge reflects the rising demand for IT professionals, telecom staff, digital service providers, and media workers. With Nepal’s growing reliance on digital finance, e-commerce, and online services, employers are offering higher compensation to attract and retain skilled talent. The global outsourcing trend and remote work opportunities have also fueled competition, pushing local wages upward.
Compared with other sectors, information and communication outperformed manufacturing (+1.34%), construction (+1.63%), and hospitality (+2.03%), showing that the digital sector is emerging as one of Nepal’s strongest wage growth drivers. For workers, this represents better career prospects and higher earnings potential, while for employers, it underscores the challenge of talent shortages and rising HR costs in a sector critical to Nepal’s modernization.
