Malaysia e-Visa from Third Country – Apply Online While Traveling Abroad

Nepali citizens who are currently living, studying, or traveling abroad can apply for a Malaysia e-Visa even from a third country, as long as they are not inside Malaysia at the time of application. The Malaysian Immigration Department officially allows applications to be submitted “from around the world except Malaysia, Israel, and North Korea.” This flexibility is particularly useful for Nepali travelers, students, or professionals who are temporarily residing in another country and wish to visit Malaysia for tourism, business, or medical purposes.

When applying from a third country, the applicant must prove that they are legally staying in that country. This can be shown through a valid visa, residence permit, or entry stamp on their passport. The Malaysian e-Visa system requires applicants to upload this proof as part of their application, along with standard documents such as a valid passport, recent passport-size photo, flight itinerary, and proof of accommodation in Malaysia.

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Confirm Eligibility: Visit the official portal https://malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my and check whether your nationality is eligible for e-Visa.

  2. Select Application Country: Choose the country you are currently residing in and ensure it is not Malaysia.

  3. Prepare Required Documents:

    • Passport valid for at least 6 months from your intended travel date.

    • Proof of stay in the third country (visa/residence permit).

    • Recent studio photo with white background (35mm × 50mm).

    • Confirmed flight tickets (to and from Malaysia).

    • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter).

  4. Apply Online: Register on the MYVISA portal and fill in all details carefully. Upload all the documents clearly in PDF or JPEG format.

  5. Payment: Pay the visa fee (based on nationality) + processing fee (RM 105) + convenience charge (0.8%–1.7%).

  6. Processing Time: The application is usually processed within 2–7 working days, excluding weekends and Malaysian public holidays.

  7. Receive e-Visa Note: Once approved, download your e-Visa (PDF format) and print it for presentation at the airport.

  8. Enter Malaysia: You must enter Malaysia before the visa’s expiry date (valid for 6 months from issuance) and stay within the permitted duration — usually up to 30 days per visit.

Important Notes:

  • You cannot apply from within Malaysia itself.

  • The proof of legal stay in the third country is mandatory. Without it, your application may be rejected.

  • The e-Visa does not guarantee entry; final approval rests with immigration officers at Malaysian entry points.

  • It is recommended to apply at least 14 days before your planned travel date.

  • Always use the official website — applications through third-party sites are at your own risk.
