Malaysia Transit Visa for Nepali Travelers – Short Layover Entry Rules

Malaysia Transit Visa is designed for travelers who have short layovers in Malaysia and need to pass through immigration before boarding their connecting flight. Nepali travelers transiting via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA or KLIA2) for less than 24 hours without leaving the airport transit area usually do not require a transit visa. However, if you need to exit the airport for hotel stays, sightseeing, or change of terminal, you must apply for a Malaysia Transit eVISA before your journey.

Key Eligibility:

  • Nepali passport holders transiting through Malaysia en route to a third country.

  • The traveler must possess a confirmed onward ticket within 24–72 hours.

  • Travelers must not have violated visa rules previously in Malaysia.

Documents Required:

  1. Valid Nepali passport (minimum 6-month validity).

  2. Confirmed onward flight ticket to the third destination.

  3. Proof of accommodation (if exiting the airport).

  4. Passport-size studio photo (white background).

  5. Cover letter stating purpose of short layover.

Application Process:

  1. Visit the official portal: https://malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my.

  2. Register under the Individual section.

  3. Fill in your personal and travel details, upload the required documents.

  4. Make online payment (Visa fee + RM105 processing charge).

  5. Wait 2–7 working days for visa approval.

  6. Download and print your eVISA in A4 format.

Important Notes:

  • Transit eVISA is valid for 6 months from the date of issue.

  • Each entry allows a maximum stay of 3–5 days, depending on nationality.

  • Immigration officers at the airport hold final authority for entry approval.

  • Avoid using third-party websites or agents; apply only via the official portal.
