Required Documents for China X1/X2 Student Visa

Applying for a China Student Visa (X1 or X2) from Nepal requires proper preparation and submission of all essential documents to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Kathmandu. The process and documentation requirements differ slightly based on the duration of study — X1 visas are for long-term programs exceeding 180 days, while X2 visas are for short-term programs lasting less than 180 days.

The first and foremost requirement is a valid passport with at least six months of validity and two blank pages. Students must fill out the China Online Visa Application (COVA) Form, print, and sign it, attaching a recent passport-size photo with a white background. Applicants also need to provide any previous Chinese visas or citizenship documents, if applicable. Minors below 18 years must include their birth certificate, parents’ passport copies, and a consent letterfrom non-accompanying parents or guardians.

The most crucial part of the student visa process is obtaining the Admission Notice from a recognized Chinese university. Along with this, applicants for the X1 visa must submit the JW201 or JW202 form, issued by the Ministry of Education of China, confirming their official enrollment. They must also show financial proof, such as a recent bank statement or scholarship letter, to demonstrate sufficient funds for tuition and living expenses.

Long-term students applying for the X1 visa must complete a medical examination from an authorized hospital following the “Foreigner’s Physical Examination Record” format, which includes X-rays, HIV, and blood tests. This medical report ensures eligibility for residence permit conversion upon arrival in China. Short-term (X2) applicants, on the other hand, typically do not need a medical test but must still provide a valid Admission Letter and travel details.

After submission, applicants must appear in person at the CVASC (Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu), pay the required visa fee, and provide fingerprints if requested. The visa processing time is generally 4 to 10 working days. Once in China, all X1 visa holders must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days through the local Exit-Entry Administration Bureau, which will replace their visa for long-term stay.
