Single vs Multiple Entry Thailand Tourist Visa — Which Is Best for You?

The Single Entry Visa is valid for three months, allows one entry into Thailand, and is cheaper — ideal for travelers planning one visit. The Multiple Entry Visa is valid for six months, allows unlimited entries (each up to 60 days), and suits frequent travelers or those visiting multiple countries. Both can be extended for 30 days. Before traveling, fill out the TDAC online. For visa help, contact Yatra For Fun Pvt. Ltd., Nepal’s trusted visa and travel agency.

Single vs Multiple Entry Thailand Tourist Visa — Which Is Best for You?

When applying for a Thailand Tourist Visa (Type TR) in 2025, travelers are often given two options — Single Entry Visa and Multiple Entry Visa. Both visas allow a stay of up to 60 days per visit, extendable by 30 additional days at a Thai Immigration Office, making a total possible stay of 90 days. However, the two differ significantly in validity, flexibility, and cost, and understanding these differences can help you choose the best one for your travel plans.

A Single Entry Tourist Visa is the simplest and most common type of visa. It allows travelers to enter Thailand only once. Once you leave Thailand — whether after completing your trip or for a side visit to another country — the visa automatically becomes invalid, even if the validity period has not expired. This visa is typically valid for three months from the date of issue, meaning you must enter Thailand within that period. After entry, you are allowed to stay for up to 60 days, and if needed, you can extend it by 30 days at any Thai Immigration Office. This option is ideal for those who plan to visit Thailand just once for a single trip. It is more cost-effective, has a faster approval process, and requires less documentation compared to the multiple-entry type.

In contrast, the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa offers greater flexibility. It allows travelers to enter and leave Thailand multiple times within its validity period, which is usually six months from the date of issue. Each entry allows a stay of up to 60 days, extendable for another 30 days. This visa is especially suitable for frequent travelers who plan to visit neighboring countries like Malaysia, Laos, or Cambodia and re-enter Thailand multiple times without needing a new visa. However, it comes at a higher cost, requires strong financial proof, and often involves stricter embassy scrutiny. The applicant must provide sufficient evidence of travel history, income stability, and reason for multiple entries.

Which Visa Should You Choose?

If you are visiting Thailand for a one-time vacation or short business visit, a Single Entry Visa is sufficient and economical. It’s perfect for first-time travelers or those with fixed travel dates. On the other hand, if you are planning an extended Southeast Asia trip, visiting multiple countries, or traveling frequently between Nepal and Thailand, the Multiple Entry Visa is the better choice despite the higher cost. It gives you freedom to enter and exit Thailand several times without reapplying.

As of 2025, travelers are also required to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours before arrival, which replaces the old paper TM6 form. This system has been implemented to streamline immigration and improve data accuracy. Always ensure you use the official TDAC website and avoid fake platforms.
