Thailand Dependent Visa for Spouse & Children of Nepali Residents — Full Application Guide

The Thailand Dependent Visa—officially classified under the Non-Immigrant “O” category—is designed for the spouse and children of foreigners who are legally residing or working in Thailand under long-term visas such as Non-Immigrant “B” (Business) or Non-Immigrant “O-A” (Retirement). For Nepali citizens whose family members live or work in Thailand, this visa allows their dependents to stay together as a family unit. It is primarily intended for family reunification and does not grant employment rights to dependents unless a separate work permit is obtained.

This visa is suitable for spouses (husband or wife) and children under 20 years of age who depend financially on the primary visa holder (the sponsor). It can be applied for at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu or through the Thailand eVisa system (www.thaievisa.go.th), depending on the applicant’s situation. The initial visa validity is typically 90 days, and once inside Thailand, the dependent can apply for a one-year extension through the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok, provided the sponsor’s visa remains valid.

To apply, the applicant must prepare all required documents carefully. A valid passport with at least six months of validity and two blank pages is mandatory. Applicants must fill out the Thailand Visa Application Form accurately and attach two recent photographs (3.5 × 4.5 cm, white background). Proof of relationship is the most critical document:

  • For spouses: a marriage certificate translated into English and authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal.

  • For children: a birth certificate showing the parents’ names.

The sponsor’s passport, Thai visa, and work permit copies are also required to prove legal residence in Thailand. Additional documents such as employment letter from the sponsor’s company, business registration, or salary slipscan strengthen the application.

Applicants must also show financial stability by providing a bank statement for the last six months with a minimum balance equivalent to THB 500,000 (around NPR 2.3 million). Proof of accommodation in Thailand (hotel booking or family residence confirmation) and round-trip air ticket booking are also required. If dependents will stay with the sponsor, the sponsor must provide a letter of guarantee stating responsibility for their stay and expenses.

The visa fee for the Dependent Visa is THB 2,000 (Single Entry) or THB 5,000 (Multiple Entry), payable via a Manager’s Cheque drawn in favor of “The Royal Thai Embassy, Kathmandu”, available at Global IME Bankbranches. The embassy does not accept cash or online payments. All documents must be neatly arranged and submitted to the embassy during working hours (9:30 AM to 11:30 AM). Processing typically takes 3–7 working days.

Once granted, the Dependent Visa holder can enter Thailand and stay for up to 90 days initially. For a longer stay, they can apply for an Extension of Stay at the Immigration Bureau for up to one year at a time. Dependents must also report their current address to immigration every 90 days (the “90-day reporting”).

It’s important to note that Dependent Visa holders are not allowed to work unless they obtain a valid work permit. The validity of the dependent visa is directly tied to the sponsor’s visa. If the sponsor’s visa expires or their employment is terminated, the dependent’s visa may also become invalid.

To avoid errors, applicants should ensure that all relationship documents, names, and passport details exactly match. Any inconsistency may result in delays or rejection. For smooth and hassle-free processing, Yatra For Fun Pvt. Ltd., Nepal’s most trusted travel and visa assistance agency, offers full professional support—from document preparation and translation to cheque issuance and embassy submission.
