Thailand Long-Term Visa Options for Nepali Citizens

Nepali citizens can stay long-term in Thailand through visa categories like the O-A (1-year retirement visa), O-X (5–10-year retirement visa), or the LTR (Long-Term Resident visa), each with age, income, and insurance requirements. Applicants must apply through the Thai Embassy in Kathmandu with verified financial documents. Yatra For Fun Pvt. Ltd. offers complete support for Thai long-term visa processing.

Thailand Long-Term Visa Options for Nepali Citizens

For Nepali citizens looking to stay in Thailand for extended periods, there are several long-term visa categoriesoffered by the Royal Thai Government. These visa types are designed for individuals who want to retire, invest, work, or live long-term in Thailand beyond the normal tourist or business visa durations. In 2025, the main long-term visa options available include the Non-Immigrant “O-A” Visa (Long Stay/Retirement), Non-Immigrant “O-X” Visa (Long Stay Extension), and the Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa. Each of these categories has its own set of eligibility criteria, validity duration, and financial requirements.

The Non-Immigrant “O-A” Visa is one of the most popular long-term options for retirees. It allows a stay of up to 1 year in Thailand and is renewable annually. Applicants must be 50 years of age or above, have no criminal record, and hold medical insurance that covers at least THB 40,000 for outpatient and THB 400,000 for inpatienttreatments. In addition, the applicant must show proof of financial stability, either by maintaining at least THB 800,000 in a Thai bank account or showing a monthly income of THB 65,000. This visa is ideal for retirees or elderly individuals wishing to live peacefully in Thailand.

The Non-Immigrant “O-X” Visa is a more advanced long-term visa, allowing up to 5 years of stay, extendable for another 5 years (total 10 years). However, this visa has stricter eligibility conditions and is available for citizens from selected countries, including those who can demonstrate strong financial resources. Applicants must be at least 50 years old, have THB 3 million in Thai bank deposits or a combination of income and deposits totaling 3 million, and must purchase valid Thai health insurance. The O-X visa is meant for long-term retirees seeking a stable, multi-year stay without the need for yearly renewal.

The Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa is Thailand’s new premium visa introduced to attract foreign professionals, digital nomads, wealthy individuals, and pensioners. The LTR visa offers an initial 5-year validity, extendable up to 10 years, with privileges such as multiple entry, annual reporting instead of 90-day check-ins, and in some categories, work permit eligibility. It has different categories: “Wealthy Global Citizen,” “Wealthy Pensioner,” “Highly-Skilled Professional,” and “Work-from-Thailand Professional.” Each category requires specific financial conditions — for example, an annual income of at least USD 80,000 or significant investments in Thai assets.

Apart from these, existing visa holders in Thailand — such as Non-Immigrant B (Business) or ED (Education) visa holders — may extend or convert their visas for long-term residence under certain conditions. Thailand also offers special privileges for investors, spouses of Thai nationals, and dependents, allowing them to stay longer through proper visa extensions.

Applicants from Nepal should carefully review the eligibility criteria, prepare all necessary documents (passport, income proof, health insurance, and financial evidence), and apply at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu. It is important to ensure that all documents are legalized and translated (if needed) before submission.

To simplify the process, Yatra For Fun Pvt. Ltd., Nepal’s most trusted visa assistance agency, helps Nepali citizens apply for all categories of Thai visas — from tourist to long-term residence types. The agency also assists Nepalis living abroad in over 70 countries who wish to settle or retire in Thailand.
