Tourist vs Business Visa for South Korea: What Nepali Applicants Should Choose

Nepali travelers must carefully choose between the Tourist Visa (C-3-9) for leisure visits and the Business Visa (C-3-4) for official meetings or trade activities. Each visa type requires specific documents, and submitting the wrong category can lead to rejection. Applicants should ensure authenticity, accurate documentation, and apply well in advance for smooth processing.

Tourist vs Business Visa for South Korea: What Nepali Applicants Should Choose

For Nepali citizens planning to travel to South Korea, choosing the right visa type is crucial to ensure smooth processing and approval. The two most common short-term visa categories are the Tourist Visa (C-3-9) and the Business Visa (C-3-4). While both allow stays of up to 90 days, the purpose, documentation, and eligibility differ significantly. Understanding these distinctions helps applicants avoid delays or rejections during the visa process.

All visa applications are managed by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kathmandu, and appointments must be booked online via https://koreanembassynepal.org. Submissions are accepted from Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and visa/passport collection occurs between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Understanding the Difference

1. Tourist Visa (C-3-9)
The Tourist Visa is intended for those visiting Korea for leisure, sightseeing, or family visits. Applicants must show proof of travel intent and financial stability to cover all expenses during their stay.

Required Documents:

  • Completed Visa Application Form with photo

  • Original Passport (valid for at least six months) and photocopy

  • Round-trip flight booking and hotel confirmation

  • Personal bank statement (six months)

  • Employment certificate or business registration (if self-employed)

  • PAN certificate and proof of income

  • Visa cover letter stating purpose, itinerary, and who will fund the trip

The C-3-9 visa does not allow participation in business meetings, employment, or trade-related activities.

2. Business Visa (C-3-4)
The Business Visa is for professionals and entrepreneurs traveling to Korea for official business activities — such as meetings, training, negotiations, or attending exhibitions.

Required Documents:

  • Invitation and Guarantee Letters from a Korean company (with official seal or notarization)

  • Business Registration Certificates (both Korean and Nepali sides)

  • Proof of Business Relationship (invoices, trade history, etc.)

  • Visa cover letter with purpose and agenda

  • Bank statements and PAN certificates

  • Confirmed round-trip flight and hotel bookings

Unlike the Tourist Visa, the Business Visa requires verified documents from both the Nepali and Korean companies, proving an authentic business relationship.

Which Visa Should You Choose?

  • Apply for a Tourist Visa (C-3-9) if your trip is purely for sightseeing, family visits, or cultural exploration.

  • Apply for a Business Visa (C-3-4) if you are visiting for meetings, training, business partnerships, or trade-related events.
Misrepresenting your purpose — such as using a tourist visa for business — may result in visa refusal and a future travel ban.

Visa Fee and Processing Time

Both visa types require around 21 working days for processing. The fee for a Single Entry Visa (up to 90 days) is NPR 5,400, payable in cash at the Embassy counter.
