Visiting Friends or Relatives in China — Required Documents for Nepali Citizens

For Nepali citizens planning to visit friends or relatives living in China, the China Family Visit Visa (Q2/S2 category) is the most suitable option. This visa is generally issued for short-term visits (less than 180 days) and can be obtained from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kathmandu through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) located at Rising Mall, Kamaladi. To ensure smooth visa approval, applicants must prepare and submit all the required documents correctly and completely.

The most important document for this visa is the invitation letter from your friend or relative in China. The letter must include your full name, passport number, nationality, purpose of visit, length of stay, and relationship with the inviter. It should also clearly mention the inviter’s name, Chinese address, contact number, and national ID or residence permit details. If the inviter is a Chinese citizen, a copy of their Chinese ID card (both sides) must be attached. If the inviter is a foreign national residing in China, a copy of their passport and residence permit is required.

In addition to the invitation, applicants must provide a set of supporting documents. These include a valid Nepali passport (with at least 6 months validity and two blank pages), a recent passport-size photograph (48×33 mm, white background), and a completed visa application form (available online at www.visaforchina.cn). Those visiting relatives must also include proof of relationship, such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or family registration document. If the visit is to a friend, it’s useful to show evidence of friendship—such as photos together, communication history, or travel records.

Financial documents are also important to demonstrate your ability to afford the trip. Applicants should submit a bank statement (last 3–6 months), along with a flight itinerary, proof of accommodation (hotel bookings or inviter’s address), and travel insurance covering the duration of the trip. If any of the supporting documents are in Nepali, they should be translated into English or Chinese and notarized before submission.

Once all documents are prepared, applicants must book an appointment and submit the application at CVASC Kathmandu. The visa fee typically ranges from NPR 12,000 to 18,000, and the processing time is 4–7 working days(express service within 2–3 days for an additional fee). The visa usually allows a stay of 30 to 90 days per entry, depending on the approval.

To make the entire process easy and error-free, Yatra for Fun Pvt. Ltd., located at Koteshwor-32, Kathmandu, provides complete visa assistance services. Their experienced team helps with invitation letter formatting, relationship verification, document translation, form submission, embassy coordination, flight and hotel booking, and travel insurance.
