१९औँ लोकतन्त्र दिवस आज देशभर विविध कार्यक्रमसहित मनाइँदै19th Loktantra Diwas Celebrated Nationwide with Tributes to Martyrs
आज देशभर १९औँ लोकतन्त्र दिवस प्रजातान्त्रिक तथा लोकतान्त्रिक आन्दोलनमा आफ्नो अमूल्य जीवन उत्सर्ग गर्ने सहिदहरूप्रति श्रद्धाञ्जली अर्पणसहित विभिन्न कार्यक्रम गरी मनाइँदैछ।
विसं २०५९ जेठ ८ मा तत्कालीन राजा ज्ञानेन्द्र शाहले विघटित गरेको संसदको पुनःस्थापना र निरङ्कुश शासनको अन्त्य भएको विसं २०६३ वैशाख ११ को ऐतिहासिक दिनको स्मरणमा प्रत्येक वर्ष लोकतन्त्र दिवस मनाइन्छ। सो दिन पूर्वराजा शाहले घोषणा गर्दै भनेका थिए, “राज्य शक्तिको स्रोत नेपाली जनता नै हुन् र नेपालको सार्वभौमसत्ता र राजकीयसत्ता नेपाली जनतामा निहित छ। जनआन्दोलनमार्फत अभिव्यक्त जनभावनाअनुसार प्रतिनिधिसभालाई पुनःस्थापित गरिएको छ।”
निरङ्कुशताविरुद्ध सात राजनीतिक दल र तत्कालीन विद्रोही नेपाल कम्युनिष्ट पार्टी (माओवादी) को संयुक्त जनआन्दोलनको बलमा सो घोषणामार्फत विसं २०६३ वैशाख १५ गते प्रतिनिधिसभाको बैठक आह्वान गरिएको थियो।
जनआन्दोलनको उपलब्धिका रूपमा स्थापित लोकतन्त्रपछि दुईवटा संविधानसभा निर्वाचनमार्फत गठित संविधानसभाले विसं २०७२ असोज ३ मा सङ्घीय लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्र नेपालको संविधान जारी गरेको थियो। उक्त संविधानले नेपाललाई सङ्घीय संरचनामा प्रवेश गरायो। सोहीअनुसार सङ्घ, प्रदेश र स्थानीय तहको दुईपटक निर्वाचन सम्पन्न भई मुलुक हाल सङ्घीयताको अभ्यासमा छ।
विसं २०६२/६३ को जनआन्दोलनले तत्कालीन राजाको प्रत्यक्ष र निरङ्कुश शासनको अन्त्य गरेको सम्झनामा विसं २०६५ देखि प्रत्येक वैशाख ११ गते लोकतन्त्र दिवस मनाउन थालिएको हो।
The 19th Loktantra Diwas is being observed across Nepal today with various programs, including tributes to martyrs who sacrificed their lives for democratic and pro-democracy movements.
The day commemorates April 24, 2006 (Baisakh 11, 2063), when former King Gyanendra Shah reinstated the parliament dissolved on May 22, 2002, and stepped down as the country's executive head, marking the defeat of autocratic rule. In his proclamation, Shah stated, “The source of state authority is the Nepali people, and Nepal’s sovereignty and state power are vested in them. In line with the sentiments expressed through the ongoing people’s movement, the House of Representatives has been reinstated.”
The announcement, driven by the people’s movement involving seven political parties and the then-rebel Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), led to the convening of the House of Representatives on April 28, 2006.
Following the movement, Nepal’s democratic achievements included two Constituent Assembly elections, which resulted in the promulgation of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal on September 20, 2015. The constitution ushered Nepal into federalism, with elections held twice for federal, provincial, and local levels, and the country is now practicing federal governance.
Since 2008, Loktantra Diwas has been celebrated annually on Baisakh 11 to mark the end of the king’s direct and autocratic rule, achieved through the 2005/06 people’s movement.
