Kathmandu — The Advertising Board has issued a strong directive urging all stakeholders to immediately stop publishing or broadcasting advertisements on unauthorized websites, betting applications, and prohibited social media platforms. The move comes amid growing concerns over the increasing use of illegal digital platforms for promotional activities. The Board reminded that the government had already decided, through a Cabinet meeting held on Chaitra 13, to shut down all types of betting apps and websites. In line with this decision, authorities have called for full compliance and cooperation from businesses, advertisers, and media agencies to prevent the continuation of such unlawful practices.According to Chief Administrative Officer Devi Pandey Khatri, any entity found publishing, broadcasting, or displaying advertisements on banned or illegal platforms will face strict legal action as per existing laws. She also urged the public and concerned parties to promptly report any such activities to the Board. The Board further reiterated provisions of the Advertisement Regulation Act, 2019 (2076 BS), particularly Section 5, which prohibits advertisements that promote gambling or encourage participation in unauthorized lottery schemes. These legal restrictions are being reinforced as part of broader efforts to regulate Nepal’s digital advertising space.Officials believe that stricter enforcement will help maintain discipline in the advertising sector, protect consumers from misleading promotions, and curb illegal financial activities linked to online betting and unauthorized platforms.
