पछिल्लो समय काठमाडौं उपत्यकामा वायु प्रदूषणको स्तर अत्यधिक बढेको छ। प्रदूषणका कारण उपत्यकाको आकाश धमिलो देखिएको छ भने घाम राम्रोसँग लाग्न सकेको छैन। बिहानैदेखि काठमाडौंको मौसम धुम्म देखिएको छ र दृश्य क्षमता समेत घटेको छ, जसका कारण यातायात सञ्चालन तथा हवाई उडानमा समेत सामान्य प्रभाव परेको छ। हावामा धुलोका कण र धुवाँको मात्रा बढेकाले सर्वसाधारणले आँखा पोल्ने र श्वासप्रश्वासमा असहज महसुस गरिरहेका छन्। वातावरण विभागका अनुसार उपत्यकाको वायु गुणस्तर सूचकांक जोखिमपूर्ण स्तरमा पुगेको छ। लामो समयदेखि हिउँदे वर्षा नभएको र देशका विभिन्न भागमा लागेको डढेलोको धुवाँ हावासँगै उपत्यकामा प्रवेश गरेकाले प्रदूषण ह्वात्तै बढेको मौसमविद्हरूले बताएका छन्। विशेषगरी बालबालिका, वृद्धवृद्धा र श्वासप्रश्वाससम्बन्धी दीर्घरोगीहरूलाई घरबाहिर ननिस्कन र निस्कनै परे गुणस्तरीय मास्क प्रयोग गर्न स्वास्थ्य विज्ञहरूले सुझाव दिएका छन्। तत्काल ठूलो वर्षा वा तिब्र हावा चल्ने सम्भावना कम रहेकाले आगामी केही दिनसम्म प्रदूषणको अवस्था यथावत् रहन सक्ने अनुमान गरिएको छ।
Air pollution levels in the Kathmandu Valley have recently risen to a hazardous level, causing the sky to appear hazy and preventing sunlight from shining clearly. Since early morning, the weather in Kathmandu has remained foggy and visibility has significantly decreased, affecting transportation and causing minor disruptions to flight operations. The increasing concentration of dust particles and smoke in the air has led many residents to experience eye irritation and breathing difficulties. According to the Department of Environment, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the valley has reached a dangerous level. Meteorologists say that the sharp rise in pollution is mainly due to the absence of winter rainfall for a long time and smoke from wildfires in various parts of the country being carried into the valley by the wind. Health experts have advised children, the elderly, and people with respiratory illnesses to avoid going outdoors and to wear high-quality masks if they must leave their homes. As there is little possibility of heavy rainfall or strong winds in the coming days, the polluted conditions are expected to persist for several more days.
