Alcohol Ban Enforced During Election Period; Vehicle Movement Restricted on Voting Day

Kathmandu: The sale, distribution, and consumption of alcoholic beverages have been prohibited nationwide starting today (Thursday). According to a decision made by the High-Level Election Security Committee, the restriction will remain in effect from seven days prior to the voting date until the final election results are officially announced. The measure has been implemented to ensure a peaceful, secure, and disciplined electoral process.

Similarly, on the day of voting—Falgun 21—only vehicles providing essential services, diplomatic missions, and those with official passes for election purposes will be allowed to operate. All other public and private vehicles will be barred from operating from 12:00 midnight on Falgun 20 until the completion of voting on the evening of Falgun 21.

However, ambulances, fire engines, hearse vehicles, blood transport services, security vehicles, and vehicles used for electricity, drinking water, sewerage, and telecommunications maintenance will remain exempt from the restriction. Authorities have urged the public to comply with the rules and support a smooth electoral process.
