The nationwide protest called by Gen Z on Monday turned violent after police used excessive force against demonstrators in Baneshwar.
What began as a peaceful demonstration escalated when protesters attempted to break through barricades and march toward the Federal Parliament building. Police initially fired tear gas to disperse the crowd, but as the situation spiraled out of control, security forces resorted to harsher measures.
According to reports, police not only used tear gas and aerial firing but also live ammunition. By the time this news was prepared, at least 15 people had been confirmed dead. With many more injured and rushed to various hospitals, the death toll is expected to rise.
While protests were called across the country, the situation in the capital became especially tense as the peaceful demonstrations quickly turned into violent clashes. The unrest has now spread nationwide, with Gen Z youth staging protests in several cities, leaving the entire country on edge.
