Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba's successor Shishir Khanel, currently on an official visit to China, held formal talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. In the meeting, Wang reiterated China's commitment to keeping its relationship with Nepal at the heart of its neighbourhood diplomacy.
Drawing on the old saying that a close neighbour is worth more than a distant relative, Wang assured his Nepali counterpart that China will continue to stand as a reliable partner throughout Nepal's journey toward development, prosperity and modernisation. The remarks were contained in a readout published by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the meeting.
Wang described the friendship between the two countries as one that has withstood the test of time, noting that the bilateral relationship has consistently contributed positively to the interests of both peoples and nations. He emphasised that regardless of how the global political landscape has shifted or how Nepal's internal situation has evolved since the establishment of diplomatic ties, both countries have continued to deepen their relationship on the foundation of peaceful coexistence.
Acknowledging the geographic, historical and cultural closeness between the two neighbours, Wang stressed the importance of working together to build a shared future. He expressed confidence that mutual trust, cooperation and partnership between Nepal and China would be elevated to new heights in the years ahead.
