Buddhabhumi Nepal Hydropower Company Limited (BNHC) returned to profit in the fiscal year 2025/26, supported by higher electricity sales, lower finance costs and reduced bank borrowings.
According to the company’s unaudited fourth-quarter financial report, it earned a net profit of Rs 12 million during the year. In the previous fiscal year, the company had recorded a net loss of Rs 22.5 million.
Revenue from electricity sales increased by 28.68 percent to Rs 185 million, up from Rs 143.7 million a year earlier. The rise in sales also lifted operating profit by 42.45 percent to Rs 90.5 million from Rs 63.5 million.
The company’s interest payments and other finance costs declined to Rs 78.6 million from Rs 87.5 million. The reduction in borrowing costs contributed significantly to its return to profitability.
Following the issuance of right shares, BNHC’s paid-up capital doubled from Rs 400 million to Rs 800 million. Part of the proceeds was used to repay bank loans, reducing long-term borrowings from Rs 915.6 million to Rs 738.9 million.
The company also cleared its accumulated losses. Its reserve, which stood at a negative Rs 104.7 million in the previous year, turned positive at Rs 3.06 million by the end of the fiscal year. Total assets reached Rs 1.59 billion.
BNHC has been selling electricity from the 4.99-megawatt Lower Todi Khola Hydropower Project since beginning commercial operations in March 2022. The improvement in earnings, lower debt and positive reserves indicate a stronger financial position, although any dividend distribution will depend on cash flow, regulatory approval and a formal decision by the company’s board.
