Contractor Selected for Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola Tunnel Operation

Kathmandu: The long-awaited Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola Tunnel has finally selected a contractor for its operation, management, and maintenance. The project has decided to assign the responsibility to Yusin–ART JV, a joint venture between Chinese company Chongqing Yusin Road and Bridge Development and Nepalese company ART Construction.According to a public notice issued on Monday, the JV company will manage the 2.65-kilometer tunnel for the next five years, including operation, maintenance, and technical management. The contract, including VAT and provisional costs, amounts to NPR 1.104 billion, about 40% lower than the government’s estimated cost. Under the agreement, the company will manage tunnel operations and maintenance at an annual average of NPR 220 million.The project had invited bids on November 2, 2025, and Yusin–ART was issued a letter of intent as the lowest bidder. The selected company has been called to finalize the contract within a week. Once the agreement is signed, the company will be responsible for equipment operation, safety management, traffic regulation, and routine maintenance inside the tunnel.The Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola Tunnel is Nepal’s first traffic tunnel and is expected to significantly reduce travel time and fuel consumption for vehicles entering Kathmandu.
