Dairy Farmers Finally See Money — DDC Pays One Crore Daily as Backlog Clears
Kathmandu. Dairy farmers who have waited months for their dues are getting some relief. After Agriculture, Forest and Environment Minister Geeta Chaudhary pushed forward a reform plan for the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC), one crore rupees is now reaching farmers' accounts every single day.
Of the nearly 58 crore rupees in dues accumulated over the past four months, 12 crore rupees has already been paid out. The ministry says an additional one month's worth of payments will be cleared by Ashar 13 — leaving no room for further delay on that front.
The remaining 46 crore rupees is expected to be settled in phases over the next two months. Minister Chaudhary said that since daily transactions and payments are now moving steadily, the outstanding amount will gradually find its way into farmers' accounts without disruption.
The ministry has stated that farmers' hard work and contribution are being respected and that their interests remain the top priority. Coordination with all relevant agencies is ongoing to ensure the problem does not repeat itself.
For dairy farmers who kept supplying milk even when payments stopped coming, the daily deposits — however gradual — are at least a sign that someone is finally listening.
