According to a report by the New York Post, data from the Cleveland Clinic shows that one in five Americans have sought health-related advice from AI tools. Similarly, a 2023 survey by Tebra revealed that nearly 25% of Americans prefer using chatbots over traditional therapy.
Despite this growing dependency, cybersecurity and privacy experts are strongly advising people to be cautious when interacting with AI chatbots like ChatGPT. They emphasize that these tools are not human professionals and cannot guarantee confidentiality. Here are seven types of information you should never share with AI chatbots:
Personal Information – Never share your full name, address, phone number, or email address. These can be used to identify and track you.
Financial Details – Avoid sharing bank account numbers, credit card details, or social security numbers, as they can be exploited for fraud or identity theft.
Passwords – Never disclose your passwords; doing so can lead to unauthorized access to your accounts.
Private Secrets – AI chatbots are not bound by confidentiality agreements and may not protect your private matters.
Health Information – AI is not a medical professional. Avoid asking for medical advice or sharing details like insurance numbers or health conditions.
Inappropriate Content – Sharing inappropriate or offensive content can lead to account restrictions or bans, and may also be stored permanently.
Anything You Wouldn’t Share Publicly – Assume that anything shared with a chatbot could potentially be stored or even exposed. If it's something you'd never tell the world, don't tell the bot either.
