Finance Minister’s Secretariat Urges Investors to Ignore Stock Market Rumours

Kathmandu — The secretariat of Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has urged investors not to rely on unverified information circulating on social media and other informal platforms about the stock market.

In an appeal issued at the beginning of the new fiscal year 2083/84, the secretariat said misleading and sponsored rumours were being spread to create fear among investors. It clarified that reports claiming that certain individuals were about to be arrested or were under investigation were not accurate.

The secretariat said regulatory authorities had, however, increased scrutiny of activities intended to manipulate or destabilise the market. It added that planned measures were being introduced through regulatory bodies to improve the stock market.

Investors were advised not to depend on Clubhouse discussions, WhatsApp or Messenger groups, intermediaries, self-proclaimed market leaders or unverified media reports for official information. The secretariat encouraged investors to study the market carefully, assess risks and rely on information issued by authorised institutions.

It also rejected claims that the recent decline in share prices reflected a broader economic crisis. According to the secretariat, some groups were attempting to create a negative narrative for personal benefit by taking advantage of the government’s low-profile working approach.

The secretariat maintained that liquidity in the banking system remained comfortable, interest rates had declined and qualified professionals were being appointed to regulatory institutions. It said these developments could help improve the investment environment.

It further stated that tax concessions and relief measures introduced for taxpayers facing revenue disputes were intended to encourage spending, investment and business recovery.

The secretariat urged investors to base their decisions on verified information, company performance and proper market analysis rather than rumours and speculation.
