Four Troubled Cooperatives Name Their Defaulters — Pay Up or Face the Law
Kathmandu. The Troubled Cooperative Management Committee has gone public with the names of loan defaulters from four cooperatives. Operating under the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, the committee released the list on Monday as part of a push to accelerate loan recovery.
The four cooperatives whose borrowers appear on the list were all declared troubled by the government on Chaitra 19, 2080. They are Ghedung Multi-Purpose Cooperative Limited, Tapai Hamro Multi-Purpose Cooperative Limited, Nagarik Kalyan Multi-Purpose Cooperative Limited and Ideal Yamuna Multi-Purpose Cooperative Limited.
However, the committee has also acknowledged a potential gap in its records. Anyone who has already repaid their loan but still finds their name on the list is being asked to visit the committee's office in Buddhanagar with supporting documents. Since the list was compiled based on available loan data, the committee accepts that some names may have been included by mistake.
For those who have genuinely not repaid — the message is far less forgiving. The committee has directed all outstanding borrowers to contact its Buddhanagar office as soon as possible and settle their dues without delay. Those who fail to comply within the specified timeframe will face strict legal action and forced recovery proceedings, according to the official notice issued by the committee.
The move signals that authorities are done waiting and are now shifting toward enforcement to recover funds from cooperatives that have left thousands of depositors in financial distress.
