Treasury bills are short-term government debt instruments used to raise internal funds for a period of 1 year or less. They are used by the government to meet short-term funding needs. Treasury bill certificates can be purchased before the maturity date and can be used for statutory liquidity ratio, permanent liquidity facility, and interbank transactions. Individuals can also pledge treasury bill certificates as collateral to obtain loans from banks and financial institutions. All classes of banks, financial institutions, organized entities, and general citizens can participate in the auction of treasury bills. The institution that bids the highest price will be given the first priority, and the treasury bills will be distributed in order up to the called amount.
