High-Level Talks Between Ukraine and U.S. Conclude in Jeddah: Agreement Reached on 30-Day Ceasefire

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia - High-level talks between Ukrainian and U.S. delegations concluded in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday. In a joint statement issued after the talks, the United States announced the resumption of security assistance to Ukraine and affirmed that there would be no restrictions on the exchange of intelligence information. During the discussions, Ukraine accepted a U.S. proposal and agreed to a 30-day temporary ceasefire.

Speaking at an event held at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump responded to the ceasefire proposal, welcoming Ukraine’s agreement and expressing hope that Russia would also support it. He hinted at direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and emphasized taking the initiative to foster mutual understanding.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Saudi Arabia’s mediation efforts during the talks. He stated that Russia must now accept the ceasefire terms and move toward genuine peace negotiations, crediting President Trump’s initiative for making this possible. Rubio clarified that ending the war remains the primary objective.

The U.S. delegation included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Middle East Ambassador Steve Witkoff. Representing Ukraine were Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, speaking to the state news agency TASS, indicated the possibility of contact with U.S. representatives in the coming days. Relations between the U.S. and Ukraine had deteriorated following a dispute on February 28 at the White House between President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Zelensky. Since then, the U.S. had halted military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, prompting Kyiv to continuously seek ways to mend ties with Washington.

Attention now turns to how Russia will respond to this ceasefire proposal. If Russia agrees, it is believed that a significant step toward ending the war could be achieved.
