House of Representatives Allocates 18 Hours for Pre-Budget Discussion, Ruling Coalition Gets Larger Share of Time

The House of Representatives has scheduled four days of pre-budget discussion ahead of the upcoming fiscal year’s budget announcement. The discussion will be held on May 13, 14, 15, and 16 (Jestha 30, 31, 1, and 2) with a total of 18 hours (1,083 minutes) allocated for parliamentary deliberation.

According to the schedule:

  • Day 1 (Today) – 4 hours

  • Day 2 (Tomorrow) – 5 hours

  • Day 3 (Jestha 1) – 4 hours

  • Day 4 (Jestha 2) – 5 hours

Time Distribution by Political Parties:

  • Nepali Congress – 5 hours

  • CPN-UML – 5 hours

  • Maoist Centre – 2 hours

  • Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) – 82 minutes

  • Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) – 50 minutes

  • Unified Socialist – 40 minutes

  • Janata Samajbadi Party – 28 minutes

  • Janamat Party – 24 minutes

  • Janata Samajbadi Nepal – 20 minutes

  • Democratic Socialist Party – 16 minutes

  • Nagarik Unmukti Party – 16 minutes

  • Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party – 5 minutes

  • Rastriya Janamorcha – 5 minutes

  • Aam Janata Party – 5 minutes

  • Two Independent MPs – 5 minutes each

The ruling coalition (7 parties) has received a total of 760 minutes (over 12 hours), while the opposition parties have been allocated 323 minutes (just under 6 hours).

The discussions will allow lawmakers to present their suggestions, opinions, and criticisms on the government's policy direction ahead of the full budget. These inputs are expected to play a significant role in shaping the upcoming fiscal policy and budget framework.
