भारत–अमेरिका व्यापार सम्झौता अन्तिम चरणमा, राष्ट्रपति ट्रम्पको संकेतIndia–US Trade Deal Nears Final Stage, Says President Trump
काठमाडौं । अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्पले भारतसँगको व्यापार सम्झौता अन्तिम चरणमा पुगेको संकेत दिएका छन्। मंगलबार भारतका लागि नवनियुक्त अमेरिकी राजदूत सर्जियो गोरको शपथ ग्रहण समारोहमा बोल्दै, उनले भारतमाथिको ट्यारिफ छिट्टै घटाइने बताएका हुन्।
ट्रम्पले आफ्नो सम्बोधनमा भने, “हामी अहिले भारतसँग नयाँ व्यापार सम्झौता गर्दैछौँ। उनीहरू अहिले मलाई खासै मन पराउँदैनन्, तर छिट्टै फेरि मन पराउनेछन्। हामी न्यायोचित सम्झौताकै नजिक छौँ। उनीहरू निकै कुशल वार्ताकार हुन्, त्यसैले सर्जियो, तपाईंले ध्यान दिनु पर्नेछ। सबैको हित हुने सम्झौता लगभग तय हुँदैछ।”
शपथ ग्रहणपछि ओभल अफिसमा पत्रकारहरूसँग कुरा गर्दै उनले भारतसँगको व्यापार सम्झौता निकट रहेको स्पष्ट गरे। ट्यारिफ घटाउने विषयमा ट्रम्पले भने, “रुससँगको तेल कारोबार घटेकाले भारतमाथिको ट्यारिफ पनि उचित समयमा तल ल्याइनेछ।”
यसअघि नोभेम्बर ५ मा भारतका वाणिज्य तथा उद्योगमन्त्री पियुष गोयलले भारत–अमेरिका व्यापार सम्झौताका छलफल सकारात्मक रूपमा अघि बढिरहेको बताएका थिए। उनका अनुसार, संवेदनशील विषयहरूका कारण केही समय लाग्ने भए पनि छलफल निरन्तर जारी छ।
दुवै देशबीच २०२५ को अन्त्यसम्म पहिलो चरणको द्विपक्षीय व्यापार सम्झौता सम्पन्न गर्ने लक्ष्य राखिएको छ। हालसम्म पाँच चरणको वार्ता सम्पन्न भइसकेको छ भने अक्टोबर २३ मा दुबै देशका वार्ताकारबीच भर्चुअल छलफल भएको थियो।
यो सम्झौताले दुवै देशबीचको व्यापार कारोबारलाई हालको १९१ अर्ब अमेरिकी डलरबाट २०३० सम्म ५०० अर्ब डलरसम्म पुर्याउने लक्ष्य लिएको छ।
मन्त्री गोयल सेप्टेम्बरमा अमेरिकामा उच्चस्तरीय वार्तामा सहभागी भएका थिए भने अमेरिकी सहायक व्यापार प्रतिनिधि ब्रेन्डन लिञ्चको नेतृत्वमा अमेरिकी टोलीले नयाँदिल्लीमा भारतीय वाणिज्य विभागसँग ‘सकारात्मक र दूरदर्शी’ छलफल गरेको थियो। दुवै देशबीच विश्व व्यापार विस्तार र आर्थिक साझेदारी सुदृढीकरणका लागि यो सम्झौता महत्वपूर्ण कदमका रूपमा हेरिएको छ।
Washington D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that a trade agreement between the United States and India is in its final stages. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Sergio Gor, the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to India, Trump said that tariffs on Indian imports will soon be reduced.
In his remarks, President Trump stated, “We are currently finalizing a new trade deal with India. They don’t like me very much right now, but they will again soon. We’re very close to a fair trade deal. They are tough negotiators, Sergio, so you’ll have to be careful. The agreement—beneficial to both nations—is nearly done.”
Later, addressing reporters at the Oval Office, Trump confirmed that the U.S.–India trade deal is nearing completion. On the issue of tariffs, he noted, “High tariffs were imposed on India due to Russian oil imports, but now that trade has decreased significantly, we will lower tariffs at the appropriate time.”
Earlier, on November 5, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal stated that the bilateral trade discussions with the U.S. were progressing positively, though he acknowledged that several sensitive and complex issues would take time to resolve.
Both nations aim to conclude the first phase of the trade agreement by the end of 2025. So far, five rounds of negotiations have been completed, with the most recent virtual meeting held on October 23 between delegations from both sides.
The deal envisions increasing bilateral trade from the current USD 191 billion to USD 500 billion by 2030.
Minister Goyal had participated in high-level talks in Washington, D.C., in September, while a U.S. delegation led by Assistant Trade Representative Brendan Lynch held “positive and forward-looking” discussions with India’s Commerce Department in New Delhi the same month.
The trade pact is viewed as a significant step toward strengthening global trade cooperation and deepening economic partnership between the world’s two largest democracies.
