काठमाडौँ — तेस्रो मुलुकबाट आयात गरिएका वस्तु कोलकाता बन्दरगाह हुँदै सिधै विराटनगरसम्म ल्याउने रेल कार्गो सेवा सुरु भएको छ। नेपाल–भारत पारवहन सम्झौताअन्तर्गत पहिलोपटक कोलकाताबाट विराटनगरका लागि मालवाहक रेल पठाइएको हो।
कोलकातास्थित नेपाली महावाणिज्य दूतावासका अनुसार भारतले विद्युतीय कार्गो ट्र्याकिङ प्रणालीसम्बन्धी नियम संशोधन गरेपछि कोलकाता, हल्दिया र विशाखापट्टनम बन्दरगाहबाट विराटनगर भन्सारसम्म रेलमार्फत मालसामान ढुवानी गर्ने बाटो खुलेको हो।
कोलकाता बन्दरगाहबाट छुटेको पहिलो रेलमा स्वस्तिक आयल इन्डस्ट्रिजले तेस्रो मुलुकबाट आयात गरेको कच्चा पदार्थ बोकेका ४० फिटका ४० कन्टेनर छन्। ती सबै कन्टेनरमा विद्युतीय कार्गो ट्र्याकिङ प्रणाली जडान गरिएको छ।
नेपाली महावाणिज्यदूत झक्कप्रसाद आचार्यसहित कोलकाता भन्सार, बन्दरगाह र भारतीय कन्टेनर निगमका अधिकारीले संयुक्त रूपमा हरियो झण्डा देखाएर रेल सेवाको शुभारम्भ गरेका थिए।
यो सेवा नियमित भएपछि एकपटकमा ४५ वटासम्म ४० फिटका कन्टेनर विराटनगर पठाउन सकिने जनाइएको छ। कोलकाताबाट छुटेको रेल करिब २४ घण्टामा जोगबनी भन्सार यार्ड हुँदै विराटनगर आइपुग्ने अनुमान छ।
यसअघि यस्तो रेल कार्गो सुविधा वीरगञ्जमा मात्र सीमित थियो। विराटनगरसम्म सेवा विस्तार भएसँगै पूर्वी नेपालका उद्योगी तथा आयातकर्ताको ढुवानी समय र लागत घट्ने अपेक्षा गरिएको छ।
रेलमार्फत ढुवानी हुँदा बन्दरगाहमा लाग्ने विलम्ब शुल्क, कन्टेनर रोकिएबापतको शुल्क र सडक ढुवानी खर्च कम हुने बताइएको छ। यसले व्यापार सहजीकरण गर्नुका साथै नेपाली उद्योगको प्रतिस्पर्धात्मक क्षमता बढाउन सहयोग पुग्ने विश्वास गरिएको छ।
Kathmandu — A direct rail cargo service from Kolkata Port to Biratnagar has begun under the Nepal–India Transit Treaty, opening a new route for goods imported from third countries.
According to the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata, the service became possible after India expanded its electronic cargo tracking rules to allow rail transport from Kolkata, Haldia and Visakhapatnam ports to Biratnagar Customs.
The first cargo train carried 40 high-capacity containers loaded with raw materials imported for Swastik Oil Industries. Each container is 40 feet long and fitted with an electronic cargo tracking system.
Nepali Consul General Jhakka Prasad Acharya, along with officials from Kolkata Customs, Kolkata Port and the Container Corporation of India, jointly flagged off the train.
Once the service becomes regular, up to 45 containers can be transported to Biratnagar in a single trip. The train is expected to reach Biratnagar through the Jogbani customs yard within about 24 hours of leaving Kolkata.
Previously, this type of rail cargo facility was available only for Birgunj. Its extension to Biratnagar is expected to benefit industries and importers in eastern Nepal by reducing transportation time and costs.
Rail transport is also expected to lower demurrage, container detention and road freight expenses. The new service is likely to support trade facilitation and strengthen the competitiveness of Nepal’s industrial sector.
