Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has invited international bids to sell about 500 MW of electricity that will be surplus during the upcoming monsoon season (Asar–Shrawan). According to NEA Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya, the increased water flow in rivers during the monsoon will allow hydropower plants to operate at full capacity, enabling the sale of surplus electricity to the Indian market.The authority has set the deadline for international companies to submit bids until the end of Chaitra. Shakya stated that only after the bidding process is completed will the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for export be finalized.Currently, Nepal has an installed electricity capacity of over 4,000 MW, but production drops to around 3,000 MW during the dry season due to reduced river flow. In recent years, Nepal has exported between 400–700 MW of electricity during the monsoon, with an average export of 1,100 MW to India. The authority has initiated the tender process in advance to sell the surplus electricity generated during the monsoon season.
