Nepal Becomes 173rd Member of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes
Nepal has joined the global campaign against tax evasion by becoming the 173rd member of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, and it is the 24th Asian country to be part of the forum. Welcoming Nepal, the forum’s chair Gaël Perraud said the country’s decision reflects a strong global commitment to jointly fight tax evasion and will further strengthen international cooperation in tax matters. As a member, Nepal will participate on an equal footing with other countries and has committed to implementing internationally agreed standards such as Exchange of Information on Request (EOIR) and Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) to control offshore tax evasion. On the occasion, Finance Minister Rameshwar Prasad Khanal said joining the Global Forum is an important step toward strengthening tax administration, promoting good governance, and mobilizing domestic resources. As a new member, Nepal will also receive technical support through a multi-year induction programme to help implement international tax standards. The Global Forum is a key multilateral body that coordinates countries worldwide to ensure tax transparency and information exchange, and it monitors standards such as the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF).
