नेपालले २०८१ सालमा पहिलो पटक बङ्गलादेशलाई विद्युत् निर्यात सुरु गरेको छ। यो नेपालका लागि मात्र नभई दक्षिण एशियाली क्षेत्रीय ऊर्जा व्यापारका लागि ऐतिहासिक उपलब्धि हो। नेपाल, भारत, र बङ्गलादेशका उच्च अधिकारीहरूले संयुक्त रूपमा भर्चुअल माध्यमबाट यो ऐतिहासिक व्यापारको उद्घाटन गरे।
नेपालले ढल्केबर–मुजफ्फरपुर ४०० केभी प्रसारण लाइन हुँदै भारतको मुजफ्फरपुर सबस्टेसनमार्फत बङ्गलादेशलाई विद्युत् पठाएको छ। त्यसपछि भारत–बङ्गलादेश बहरामपुर–भेरमारा प्रसारण लाइन प्रयोग गरी विद्युत् बङ्गलादेश पुर्याइएको हो। यो व्यापार क्षेत्रीय सहकार्य र ऊर्जा व्यापारको नयाँ अध्याय हो।
विद्युत् निर्यातबाट नेपालले पहिलो पटक अमेरिकी डलरमा आम्दानी गर्न थालेको छ। बङ्गलादेशलाई प्रतियुनिट ६.४० अमेरिकी सेन्टमा विद्युत् बिक्री गरी, नेपालले प्रतिदिन करिब २८ हजार डलर (करिब ३८ लाख नेपाली रुपैयाँ) आम्दानी गर्नेछ। यो आयले नेपालको जलविद्युत् क्षेत्रको आर्थिक सम्भावना बढाउने विश्वास गरिएको छ।
सम्झौताको प्रमुख बुँदाहरू
नेपालले वर्षायाममा ६ महिनासम्म (जुन १५ देखि नोभेम्बर १५) बङ्गलादेशलाई ४० मेगावाट विद्युत् निर्यात गर्नेछ।
भारतको मुजफ्फरपुर बिन्दुसम्मको चुहावट नेपालले व्यहोर्नेछ, जबकि अन्य सबै शुल्क र कर बङ्गलादेशले तिर्नेछ।
यो सम्झौता पाँच वर्षसम्म कायम रहनेछ।
यो व्यापारले नेपालको जलविद्युत् क्षेत्रलाई अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय बजारसम्म पुर्याएर लगानीका नयाँ सम्भावनाहरू खुला गरेको छ। साथै, यो सहकार्यले दक्षिण एशियाली देशहरूबीचको कूटनीतिक सम्बन्धलाई थप सुदृढ बनाउने अपेक्षा गरिएको छ।
बङ्गलादेशलाई विद्युत् निर्यात नेपालका लागि ठूलो उपलब्धि हो। यो मात्र आर्थिक लाभको स्रोत नभई क्षेत्रीय सहकार्यको उदाहरणसमेत बनेको छ। नेपालको जलविद्युत् व्यापारलाई अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय स्तरमा पुर्याउने यो प्रयासले देशको ऊर्जा क्षेत्रको भविष्य उज्ज्वल बनाउन मद्दत गर्नेछ।
Nepal has officially started exporting electricity to Bangladesh in 2024, marking a historic milestone in the South Asian regional energy trade. Senior officials from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh jointly inaugurated this trade through a virtual ceremony.
Nepal is exporting electricity to Bangladesh via the Dhalkebar–Muzaffarpur 400 kV transmission line, which delivers power to Muzaffarpur substation in India. From there, the electricity is transmitted to Bangladesh using the Baharampur (India)–Bheramara (Bangladesh) transmission line. This initiative represents a significant step in strengthening regional cooperation and energy trade.
For the first time, Nepal is earning revenue in U.S. dollars through electricity exports. Bangladesh is purchasing 40 MW of electricity at a rate of 6.40 U.S. cents per unit, which will generate approximately $28,000 (around NPR 3.8 million) daily in revenue for Nepal. This income is expected to provide a substantial boost to Nepal's hydropower sector.
Key Highlights of the Agreement
Nepal will export 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh for six months annually during the monsoon season, from June 15 to November 15.
Nepal will bear transmission losses up to Muzaffarpur in India, while Bangladesh will cover all subsequent charges, including taxes and fees.
The agreement is set to last for five years, with the potential for further expansion.
This development opens new doors for Nepal's hydropower sector, enabling access to international markets and attracting potential investments. Additionally, it strengthens diplomatic relations between Nepal, India, and Bangladesh, fostering greater regional integration.
The electricity export to Bangladesh is a landmark achievement for Nepal. Beyond economic benefits, it showcases Nepal's growing role in the regional energy trade and highlights the potential of its hydropower sector.
