नेसपा (नयाँ शक्ति पार्टी) का अध्यक्ष तथा पूर्वप्रधानमन्त्री डा. बाबुराम भट्टराईले नेपालले छिमेकी देशको ठूलो अर्थतन्त्रसँग लय मिलाएर अघि बढ्न सके मात्रै गरीबी, बेरोजगारीको दुश्चक्रबाट मुक्त हुने सम्भावना रहेको बताएका छन्।
शुक्रबार काठमाडौंमा आयोजित ‘अर्थदृष्टिः अल्पविकासको अर्थ राजनीति’ नामक पुस्तक विमोचन कार्यक्रममा बोल्दै उनले भने, “नेपालले नयाँ ढंगले विश्वसँग गति मिलाएर अगाडि बढ्न सक्यो भने राम्रो हुन्छ। विशेष गरी छिमेकी देशको ठूलो अर्थतन्त्रसँग सन्तुलन मिलाएर अघि बढ्न सके दुश्चक्रबाट माथि उठ्न सकिन्छ।”
डा. भट्टराईले राजनीतिक परिवर्तन त आएको भए पनि बलिया संस्था निर्माणमा नेपाल चुकेको बताए। उनले ब्यूरोक्रेसी, वित्तीय संस्था, राजनीतिक संस्था, र भ्रष्टाचार नियन्त्रण निकायहरूलाई सुधार गरेर बलियो बनाउनुपर्ने आवश्यकता औंल्याए।
उनको भनाइमा, “हामी ऐतिहासिक रूपमै सय वर्ष पछाडि परिसकेका छौं। अब संरचनात्मक रूपमा अघि बढ्नुपर्छ। राजनीतिक परिवर्तन गर्यौं, तर संस्थागत सुधार गर्न सकिएन। अब चाहिने कुरा भनेको संस्थागत बलियोपन हो।”
त्यस्तै, उनले नेपाललाई समृद्ध बनाउने बाटोको रूपमा औद्योगिक र कृषिप्रधान अर्थतन्त्रको रूपान्तरण, वित्तीय र मौद्रिक नीतिमा सुधार, र राज्य संस्थाहरूको विकासमैत्री भूमिका आवश्यक रहेको उल्लेख गरे।
डा. भट्टराईले अन्त्यमा भने, “अबको बाटो भनेको वृद्धि, वितरण र दिगोपन हो। यो अवधारणालाई गम्भीर रूपमा लिएर अघि बढ्न सक्यौं भने नेपाल बन्ने बाटो खुल्छ।”
Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Chairman of Naya Shakti Party and former Prime Minister, stated that Nepal has the potential to break free from the vicious cycle of poverty and unemployment if it aligns its growth strategy with the major economies of neighboring countries.
Speaking at the launch event of the book "Arthadrishti: Artharajniti of Underdevelopment" on Friday, Dr. Bhattarai emphasized the need for Nepal to move in sync with the global economy, particularly the powerful economies in its neighborhood.
He remarked, “If Nepal can align itself with global momentum in a new way—especially with the major economies of neighboring countries—it can rise above the challenges of poverty and unemployment.”
Dr. Bhattarai also pointed out that despite achieving political change, Nepal has failed to build strong institutions. He stressed the need to strengthen bureaucratic, financial, political, and anti-corruption institutions to support structural development.
“We need to ask why we are lagging behind. We’ve fallen back by a century historically. Now, we must move forward structurally. We’ve brought political change, but failed to build strong institutions. From bureaucratic reforms to strengthening financial, political, and anti-corruption institutions—this is the need of the hour,” he said.
He further highlighted the importance of transforming Nepal’s economy from agriculture-based to an industrial one, alongside significant reforms in financial and monetary policies. If state institutions can drive development with such reforms, he believes Nepal can achieve prosperity.
“The way forward lies in growth, distribution, and sustainability,” he concluded. “If we take this seriously, Nepal can truly transform.”
