NEPSE to Reopen Share Market from Wednesday

The share market, which had remained closed since September 9 (Bhadra 24) due to the Gen Z protests, is set to reopen from Wednesday. Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has informed that preparations are underway to resume trading, though the final decision still awaits formal approval from the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON).

Earlier, NEPSE had suspended trading for two days on SEBON’s directive. Later, the closure was extended by another week, until October 18 (Ashoj 2), citing Section 90 (1)(gha) of the Securities Act, 2063, which allows the regulator to halt trading for up to five days in consultation with the market.

However, with the situation gradually returning to normal and the major Dashain festival approaching, the authorities have decided to reopen the market. Many investors had raised concerns that they would not receive their payments on time for Dashain expenses, as settlements were delayed due to the prolonged closure.

Considering both the festive season and pressure from investors, NEPSE is now preparing to resume share trading from Wednesday.
