RBB Leads in Savings Deposit Collection

Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) has topped the list in terms of savings deposit collection among commercial banks in Nepal. According to data published by Nepal Rastra Bank for the period ending Baisakh 2082, RBB has mobilized Rs. 224.58 billion in savings deposits — the highest among all commercial banks.

Nabil Bank stands second with Rs. 181.12 billion in savings deposits. Meanwhile, Global IME Bank ranks third with a strong showing of Rs. 197.16 billion, reflecting its recent aggressive expansion in both urban and rural banking markets.

Laxmi Bank and Nepal Investment Mega Bank (NIMB) follow with Rs. 142.37 billion and Rs. 129.96 billion in savings deposits, respectively. These banks have leveraged digital banking platforms, mobile apps, and user-friendly services to draw more savings customers.

Savings deposits are considered a stable and long-term source of funding for banks, helping them maintain liquidity and offer competitive loan products. As a result, most commercial banks have increasingly focused on expanding savings products through rural outreach, attractive interest rates, and simplified services.

However, not all banks have performed equally. Citizen Bank has managed only Rs. 68.22 billion, while Prime Bank and Sanima Bank have Rs. 51.78 billion and Rs. 75.42 billion, respectively, in savings deposits. These figures suggest a need for improved customer acquisition strategies and stronger digital presence.

Growth in savings deposits reflects the level of public trust a bank enjoys. In the current financial climate, low-cost deposits from savings accounts form the backbone of loan expansion, making it a critical component of banking strategy.

Analysts say banks that consistently grow their savings base gain a competitive edge by maintaining lending flexibility and boosting profitability. As such, banks with a strong grip on savings deposits are expected to maintain leadership in Nepal's evolving financial market.
