Royalist Protest in Kathmandu’s Tinkune Turns Violent: Arson, Shooting, and Injuries Reported

A demonstration by pro-monarchy supporters in Kathmandu’s Tinkune has spiraled into chaos, marked by police intervention and acts of arson. According to local journalist the situation escalated after police used force to disperse the crowd.

The royalists, attempting to march toward Baneshwor, were met with tear gas and baton charges from the police. In retaliation, protesters set fire to two houses near the Royal Royal Banquet after pelting them with stones and shattering windows. Firefighters arrived but have yet to fully extinguish the blaze.

During the unrest, one protester was injured by a rubber bullet fired by police and has been admitted to Kantipur Hospital. Additionally, a female Armed Police Force officer suffered a head injury after being attacked by demonstrators. Seven other armed police personnel were also injured in the clashes and are receiving treatment at Kantipur Hospital, Shahi reported.

Royalists from various areas, including Chabahil and Bhaktapur, converged on Tinkune with processions along the Ring Road, demanding the restoration of the monarchy. The planned public gathering has been disrupted, and the Tinkune area remains tense amid the ongoing violence.
