Kathmandu — The simple habit of asking for a purchase invoice has turned incredibly lucrative for Santamaya Tamang of Nuwakot. Through a lucky draw conducted under the Inland Revenue Department’s (IRD) 'Taxpayer Incentive Reward Program,' Tamang bagged a bumper cash prize of Rs 1 million (Rs 10 Lakhs) from a shopping bill of just Rs 3,000.

The winners were announced on Sunday during a special event held at Bishal Bazar, where renowned actors Deepak Raj Giri and Deepa Shree Niraula drew the lucky numbers. Launched to encourage consumers to actively request official receipts for their purchases, the campaign ran from Ashwin 16 to 31. The initiative saw massive participation, registering over 37.7 million transactions, including those made via QR payments.

According to the IRD, Tamang will receive a net cash payout of Rs 750,000 after mandatory tax deductions. In addition to the bumper prize, 16 other daily winners were selected to receive a net cash prize of Rs 100,000 each. To claim their rewards, all 17 winners are required to visit their nearest Inland Revenue Office with their original purchase bills by Kartik 15.
