Kathmandu — Sangrila Development Bank earned a net profit of Rs 889.9 million (Rs 88 crore 99 lakh) in the last fiscal year 2082-83. This profit is 46.69 percent higher than in the previous fiscal year, when the bank had earned a net profit of just Rs 606.6 million (Rs 60 crore 66 lakh).
Two main factors drove the rise in the bank's profit: an increase in net interest income and a decline in the impairment charge. During the review period, the bank's net interest income grew from Rs 2.0714 billion to Rs 2.4201 billion.
Similarly, the impairment charge — which stood at Rs 345.4 million (Rs 34 crore 54 lakh) in the previous year — fell to just Rs 91.3 million (Rs 9 crore 13 lakh) last year. This significant drop in the amount set aside against loan risk had a positive effect on the bank's profit.
During the review period, the bank collected deposits of Rs 56.92 billion and extended loans of Rs 45.87 billion. Its paid-up capital stands at Rs 3.734 billion, while its reserve fund holds Rs 2.10 billion. Retained earnings, meanwhile, stand at Rs 492.3 million (Rs 49 crore 23 lakh).
According to the financial statement, the bank's earnings per share (EPS) stands at Rs 23.83 and its net worth per share at Rs 169.50. The bank's dividend capacity has also risen to 13.19 percent, the statement notes.
Despite the improvement in profit and earnings, the bank's non-performing loans (NPL) have increased. The NPL, which stood at 5.52 percent in the previous year, rose to 6.87 percent in the last fiscal year — an area that appears to require improvement for the bank.
