Sudhan Gurung Returns as Home Minister, Oath at 3 PM Today
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Sudhan Gurung is set to reclaim the Home Ministry for a second time. Prime Minister Balendra Shah has decided to reappoint him to the position, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 3 PM today.
Gurung's return to the cabinet has not been a straightforward journey. Not long ago, he was forced to step down from the Home Ministry after serious allegations surfaced accusing him of accumulating disproportionate wealth through backdoor dealings with business circles. The controversy had made his continuation in the post untenable, prompting his resignation.
Following his exit, the government formed a probe committee to investigate the allegations against him. After completing its inquiry, the committee cleared Gurung of the charges, handing him a clean chit. Prime Minister Shah has now used that report as the basis for restoring Gurung to the same ministry he was once asked to leave.
What made the reappointment particularly notable was that Gurung himself had dropped clear hints about his comeback days before the official announcement. He had publicly advised his supporters and party workers not to come for photographs for the next two months — a remark that political observers widely interpreted as a signal that he already knew he was heading back into government.
