Total Profit of 20 Commercial Banks Reaches NPR 43.88 Billion by Falgun End

By the end of Falgun in the current fiscal year, 20 commercial banks have earned a total profit of NPR 43.88 billion. This represents a modest 0.89% increase compared to the same period last fiscal year. In the previous year, banks had earned NPR 43.49 billion by the end of Falgun. This data indicates that the banking sector has not made significant progress in the current fiscal year.Nabil Bank's Outstanding PerformanceIn the race for profit, Nabil Bank has maintained its dominance, leaving all competitors behind. Nabil earned NPR 6.07 billion in net profit, establishing itself as the number one bank in Nepal. This bank, which earned NPR 4.78 billion last year, has achieved an impressive growth of 26.87%.Global IME Bank and Other Banks' PerformanceFollowing Nabil, Global IME Bank earned NPR 4.62 billion in profit. However, it experienced a modest 2.26% decline in profit compared to last year.Remarkable Growth of Kumari BankThe most surprising and positive improvement has been seen in Kumari Bank. Kumari Bank increased its profit by 274.65%, reaching NPR 3.63 billion, compared to only NPR 96.91 million in the same period last year.Siddhartha Bank and Agricultural Development Bank's Strong ImprovementSimilarly, Siddhartha Bank’s profit increased by 68.31%, and Agricultural Development Bank’s profit grew by 65.56%, reflecting a strong financial improvement. National Commercial Bank and Sanima Bank also saw respectable profit growth of 35.68% and 23.21%, respectively.Banks Experiencing Declining ProfitsHowever, the data also reveals some challenges. Nearly half of the 20 banks, or 9 banks, have seen a decline in profits. In particular, Laxmi Sunrise Bank’s profit dropped by a significant 67.36%.NIC Asia Bank and Other Banks Face Declining ProfitsNIC Asia Bank, which once aggressively expanded its business, saw its profit shrink by 62.41%, dropping to NPR 30.83 million. Nepal Bank also faced a 60.28% drop in its profit. Additionally, Nepal Investment Mega Bank, Standard Chartered, Prabhu, Himalayan, and Citizens Bank also saw double-digit declines in their profits.Challenges in Loan ManagementThis trend confirms that some banks are still facing difficulties in managing bad loans and balancing interest income. It indicates that the banking sector is still grappling with challenges in these areas.
