Kathmandu — Two more brokerage companies have started preparations to provide margin trading services by arranging the required credit facilities. Dynamic Money Managers Securities and Kohinoor Investment and Securities have received a ‘CARE-NP A3’ rating from CARE Ratings Nepal for short-term bank loans.
Dynamic Money has received the rating for a loan facility of Rs 1.5 billion, while Kohinoor Investment has secured the same rating for a Rs 2 billion loan facility. Earlier, brokerage firms including Nasa Securities, Vision Securities, Imperial Securities and Trishakti Securities had also completed credit ratings for margin lending arrangements.
The Nepal Securities Board’s implementation of the Margin Trading Facility Directive, 2082 has opened the way for licensed brokers to provide margin trading services to investors. Following the regulatory approval, brokerage firms have been focusing on arranging funds and infrastructure required for the facility.
According to CARE Ratings Nepal, Dynamic Money’s long operating history, experienced management, large customer base and stable profitability supported its rating. The company has around 63,481 active clients. Similarly, Kohinoor Investment has received the rating based on its more than two decades of market experience, customer base of around 121,000 and satisfactory financial performance.
Currently, both companies rely mainly on brokerage commissions as their primary source of income. With the introduction of margin trading, brokers expect additional revenue from interest income and greater diversification of earnings.
Market participants believe that upcoming provisions related to short selling, intraday trading and allowing non-resident Nepalis to participate in the secondary market could further increase activity in Nepal’s capital market.
